Starting with measurement
Hello!
Today I want to explain you an activity I did when I was doing my practices in the School. The students of second course of primary education were seeing the measurement in class.
Firstly, the teacher showed the students some types of measurement objects, like a ruler, a metre, their hands or feets...
When the students knew the objects they can use to measure, they started measuring some objects they had in class, for example a pencil, a notebook or a book. For this type of measurement (small objects), they measured them with a ruler.
Secondly, they measured the playground dimensions in groups. For this, each group had a shit where the playground was drawn and some spaces in which they must put the measure in each of the cases, and a meter. They had a session of 45 minutes to do this.
The session was successful in spite of thinking it was going to be an horror because they are so little to work in groups and being organized to develop the activity.
I recommend you to use this method to introduce students in the measurement world!
