Hello mates! Today I want to show you a tool you can use to create your own class material. We have used it in class for doing an infographic about a particular unit to sum it up. I think it is a good source because it is easy to use and free, so you can edit your units and try students do an infography to about something and later explane it in class. I show you an example that I have done with it. Hope you liked it. Bye!

Measurement converter App

Hello mates! Today I want to show you an App I think is useful to use in class with the biggest students of Primary Education. The App's name is Metric Conversion and you can use it to transform an unit in other different, just like learn about new units of measurement, bigger or smaller. We could plan an exercises battery using this App because I think students could learn a lot using new technologies. Here you can find the  link  to download it to Android systems.

Measure in class

Hello again mates! I want to show you a video about how to revise how to measure with the smallest courses of primary educacion. I think in mathematics, we have to revise all the contents, specially with little students because, this is one of the best ideas to get the students learn perfectly. In this case, the teacher revise the measurement in an active way and later, students with their materials, measure some things by their own. It is important to give the students the freedom to do the activities because it is the best way to learn something and never forget it. Here you can find the  link .

Text books in class?

Hello mates! Today I want to talk about something I think is a dilemma to all of us. I refer to text books. Are important in class? Are unnecessary? Are indispensable? What is the most correct adjective to mark the book? Well, in my opinion any of them. I think both radical thoughs are not good. We have to think they are our friends, not a simple leafs combination that make the students get a less academic efficiency, which think the majority of teachers. When I am in a classroom, I will use the text book, at least as a guide to myself, because in this you can see the contents students need to pass a particular course. In one hand, if you decide to carry out your classes without any book, you probably could use it at the end of each unit, for example, to reinforce the contents given, or to catch examples to do any exam (if you decide to test the students). In a particular situation I saw when I was in my practices, my teacher did not use any book. A day, my teacher could not

Weight

Hello mates! Weight is important in School too, so student must learn it in the most dynamic way. For this, I have thought that students can see a video about this and they can learn what is this. Here you can see the  LINK  to the video. Later, we can do two types of activities: - In the first one, students are going to do a cake. For this, they must weigh all the ingredients the cake needs nad later cook it. They will study the small units of weight with this activity. - Later, students will weigh and measure themselves and later calculate the BMI (body-mass index) to discover if their bodies are compensated. In this way, students can study the bigger units of weight.

Online games

Hello mates! I want to show you a webpage in which you can find different activities about measurement adapted to all the cycles of Primary Education. To play online is a good resource in mathematics because sometimes students think it is difficult or boring, so with this types of resources, students can realise that it is not true, mathematics is a very important and interesting subject. Here you have the  LINK .

A video about lenght

Hello mates! Today I want to show you a video I have found to teach how is the lenght and its unit of measurement, which is the metre. It is an interesting video to the first cycle of Primary Education because in my opinion it explains how it is and how to measure properly. Here you have the  LINK . Hope you like it!

Measurement Apps

Imagen
Hello again! I want to show you an interesting App you can have in your mobile phones or tablets. It is an App in which you are a farmer and the objective is to become the king or queen of the city. This objective, you can reach solving some problems about measurement. This is an useful App to improve this part of mathematics. The name of this App is "El rey de las matemáticas" and this can be used with students of the first cycle of primary education. It can be used with iOS and Android devices. The handicap is that you have to pay for this App.

Starting with measurement

Hello! Today I want to explain you an activity I did when I was doing my practices in the School. The students of second course of primary education were seeing the measurement in class. Firstly, the teacher showed the students some types of measurement objects, like a ruler, a metre, their hands or feets... When the students knew the objects they can use to measure, they started measuring some objects they had in class, for example a pencil, a notebook or a book. For this type of measurement (small objects), they measured them with a ruler. Secondly, they measured the playground dimensions in groups. For this, each group had a shit where the playground was drawn and some spaces in which they must put the measure in each of the cases, and a meter. They had a session of 45 minutes to do this. The session was successful in spite of thinking it was going to be an horror because they are so little to work in groups and being organized to develop the activity. I recommend you to

Start from the beginning...

Hello! This blog has been created to a subject called "Didactics of Measurement". I am a student of fourth year of Primary Education Degree. With this blog I want to pick up some resources or ideas that you can use in your mathemathics class. I hope you enjoy a lot!
